Dangal means a Wrestling competition. Dangal is based on the real life of wrestler named Mahavir Singh Phogat. The movie is directed by Nitesh Tiwari, written by Nitesh Tiwari, Piyush Gupta, Shreyas Jain and Nikhil Mehrotra. Dangal is produced by Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao and Siddhath Malhotra. In this movie Aamir Khan acted as Mahavir Singh Phogat who is a former champion wrestler of Haryana. He married to Sobha Kaur played by Sanksi Tanwar. His dream was to win gold medal for India but unable to do so, so he promises that his son will win gold medal for India one day.
Phogat was disapointed when her wife given birth to 4 girls but no boy. Although he loves dearly his daughters, but he does not believe that girls can wrestle. One day when his two daughters Geeta and Babita returns home after beating two boys, he realizes that how wrong he was. Since then he started training his daughters in wrestling.
The movie is all about on how he trains his daughters to became professional wrestlers.
The music of the Dangal is composed by Pritam and lyrics written by Amitabh Bhattacharya. The movie is scheduled to release on December 23, 2016.
The movie is planned by Divya Rao who is a member of Disney’s creative team. In 2012 when she read an article on Mahavir Singh Phogat that how he trained his daughters to became wrestlers, she was so much impressed on the story that she spoke to Disney and Siddharth Roy Kapoor on this and they immediately agreed on this project. Disney appointed Nitesh Tiwari to write and direct the film. They approached to Phogat family and they immediately agreed on this.
Later they described the story to Aamir Khan who likes the script very much however, he planned to do this movie after 5-10 years as the script requires the characters of 55-60 years old. Later on he changed his mind and agreed to work on this project and decided to produce it himself jointly with Disney’s India.
